Apple TV+ is having its best year ever, and that’s arguably true for comedies too. The streamer has been on a hot streak with acclaimed comedies like The Studio, Stick, and Mythic Quest. And now one returning Apple TV+ series—Platonic—sounds like it’s delivered the goods with season 2’s new batch of episodes.
Platonic season 2 is ‘one of the year’s best’ comedies
Earlier this year, The Studio arrived starring Seth Rogen, and instantly won over both critics and viewers. Now, Rogen is back in another Apple TV+ comedy that’s getting strong reviews: Platonic season 2.
Here’s what critics are saying:
- Collider: “Season 2 is another winner, finding novel new challenges to test platonic dynamics and showcasing top-notch timing from every member of the team for one of the year’s best comedy TV series.”
- Vulture: “It walks a fine line between depth and lightness, substance and ease, and feels like a show that could run for years.”
- RogerEbert.com: “Season 2 is classic 21st century comfort viewing…Apple TV+ has become the industry leader in warm-hearted, feel-good comedies.”

Platonic season 2 hits Apple TV+ on Wednesday, August 6 with its first two episodes (or more precisely, Tuesday the 5th at 6 p.m. PT).
The first season consists of 10 very bingeable episodes roughly 30 minutes each.
Here’s Apple’s official summary and the trailer:
Co-created, directed and co-written by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, “Platonic” season two picks up with everyone’s favorite pair of best friends (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) as they contend with new midlife hurdles, including work, weddings and partners in crises. The duo tries their best to be each other’s rock — but sometimes rocks break things. The season two cast also includes Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo, and introduces Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett as guest stars.
Even though Rogen stars in both Apple TV+ shows, Platonic uses a very different style of comedy than The Studio.
Based on my experience with season 1 and reading the reviews for season 2, Platonic is much more of a lighthearted, far less stress-inducing series. It won’t have nearly as many laugh out loud moments, but comes with its own unique strengths nonetheless.
